In the late 80's and early 90's alot of option teams were starting to incorporate large O'line splits! Center to Guards: 2-3 feet, Guards to Tackles 3-5 feet and Tackles to Tight Ends 2-3 feet. We incorporated some of these split concepts! Called them Smart Splits! We left it up to the O'linemen to decide if a large split was smart! Many teams allowed us to get large splits, then at the last second before the snap jumped into the A and B gaps! Many times we were split to far to get the defender in the gap blocked.
How would you counter this defensive action?
