Coach,
Great article! This one really struck a cord with me because this is exactly what happened to us this year. We had a QB that had all the tools and was one of our best athletes. The problem was we got blinded by his skill and okayed his lack of execution when he would reel off a 45 yard scamper for a touchdown. It honestly cost us a sectional championship. We were up 21-3 before the half and ran midline to get closer to goal line and he did not take care of the ball and fumbled it and the other team score three plays later to make it 21-10. We lost the game 21-25. Earlier in the year he was reversing the field on a sprint out to the right and fumbled and we recovered and scored and won the game 16-7. We won the game that did not really matter and lost the game that mattered. Thanks for your honesty because we were completely frustrated this year wondering whether it was us or him. If we had to do it over again he probably would be playing fullback and not QB. Thanks again, great article!

Great article, and I hope this site takes off. I cut my teeth on the triple, and love to hear how other folks are teaching it. Regarding the article, I struggle as a coach deciding between these two qb's. One is a great athlete, playmaker, fast, rangey, makes you go, "Wow!" He can also make you want to jump of the back of the press box with his adlib approach at times. The other is less talented, marginal playmaking ability, and quite honestly hinders your offensive possibilities. BUT, he plays within his skill set, doesn't try to be something he is not, and executes what he can do consistently. I have won with either type; I have also lost with each. My question has always been, at what point to do I decide which is more valuable to us as an offfensive unit, and subsequently at team? Would love to hear others chime in.

provided there is talent around him - i'll always favor the execution person
