Any suggestions on how to arrange your practices for the Triple Option? Individual time, group time and team time.
Thank you.

After many years of this, I feel this past year was the best practice formation & most consistent that I have used. We are 1-platoon so we get about 50mins to an hour each side of the ball.
We are no-huddle so we get a lot of reps in each segment.
MON/TUES (basically the same practice):
Pre-practice: Qb/C snaps & footwork, pitch drills, & warm-up arms FB's stance & take-off using boards; Slots stance & take-off for motion timing Also at least 1 ball-carrying drill for all skill positions
15 mins-option drills half of the time is QB/FB reads & crease running vs looks (Slots are blocking) half of the time is QB/Slots working pitch situations (FB's are blocking) I like to break this drill up to make sure we don't have any glaring problems with mesh and/or pitch
15 mins-passing I mostly do 1 on 1 (good on good) because we say a lot of single coverage (man coverage) and it forces our receivers & slots to run good routes and our QB's to make good throws. If we can throw & catch vs man then I think zone is easier. We do a little good on good also vs our defense.
15 mins-1/2 line & core Same drills except in 1/2 line we don't have a backside Guard or Tackle and we run all option & toss In core we add a backsdie guard & tackle run inside run game including midline.
15 mins- TEam
Hope it helps Deter

Standard Practice
10 Min. Dynamic Warm up (Rotate 1 group per day doing a football drill as a warm up. For example, Monday = backfield runs skelly IV/OV on hose. Tuesday lineman work pass pro fundamentals, Wednesday = Receivers quick pass routes
10 Min. = Fundamentals Line = Chutes/ 5 min. Double team 5 min. WB's = Ball security QB/FB = Mesh drill on hose SE's = Perimter blocking
15 min. Pass break Skills = 7 on 7 / Line = Pass pro
20 Min. = Half line Drill (2 centers and 2 backfields v. 1/2 scout D) We flip our line so the TE side only runs OV. The SE side runs IV. (I believe this is way to go with iron man situation IMHO)
So the TE side practices OV & Midline 10 min. w/ 1 backfield The SE side practices IV & Rocket 10 min. w/ 1 backfield. At 10 min. the backfields and Centers switch line groups.
30 Min. Team with script.
15 min. ST
60 Min. Defense.
That's 2h40 min. Next day half line components would change. For example, OV and Counter iso & IV and counter option. Always working IV/OV but rotating complimentary plays.
Just my 2 cents. Hope it helps.

We run unbalanced practices on Monday and Tuesday. Offense is heavy on Monday. We are a Hybrid Wing team that runs inside veer, outside veer and midline.
Monday-Offensive Emphasis 20 Min-Pass Progression (We warm up with this) 15 Min-Special Teams 5 Min-Tempo (No Huddle on Air) 15 Min-Perimeter Attack (Mainly Rocket-out base play) 15 Min-Half Line 10 Min-Inside Drill 30 Min-Team 30 Min-Defense
Tuesday-Defensive Emphasis 20 Min-Option Progression (We work on mesh, reads, etc) 30 Min-Team Offense 1:10 Min-Team Defense
Wednesday-50/50 20 min Pass Progression 15 min Special Teams 45 min Offense 45 min Defense

I have published a book titled, "How to Practice Option Offensive Football". It goes through practice prep for an entire pre-season, season, off-season and summer. It can be found at Gunther Publishing at www.optionfootball-publishing.net
