Steve (or anyone else that may have some opinions/insight),
We are a flexbone team and we align our offensive line as close to the line of scrimmage as legally possible. Our philosophy behind this is that we can escape hand off keys as quickly as possible in an attempt to make the read as clear as possible for the quarterback.
We do run fullback trap and sometimes have issues with our guard on his trap path. Essentially, the trap man will sometimes come over the top of our guard and make the play or we simply do no get a good solid shot on the defender. I know that this is sometimes caused by the lack of movement by our center, but other times we get adequate movement and still cant seem to get a good trap path.
I guess my question is this- Does anyone else run into this same problem? Do we need to back our line up a little bit to be able to run a better trap path (more into the line of scrimmage)? Am I missing some coaching points or do you have any coaching points that you feel teach this better?
Thanks
Dennis
